Men and women can do two things to protect themselves against the consequences of HPV:

  • condom use during sex*
  • vaccination

Women can also participate in cervical cancer screening.1

*Condoms do not protect you fully against an HPV-infection.

FEELING WELL INFORMED AND WANT TO GET VACCINATED?

Boys and girls turning 10 years old receive an invitation for a free HPV-vaccination as part of the National Immunization Program. In 2023, everyone up to the age of 26 has the opportunity to get vaccinated through this program. 

* Vaccination is not the only option to protect yourself against the consequences of HPV. You can also use a condom during sex and as woman participate in the screening for cervical cancer.

Everyone can get vaccinated at their own expense outside this program.1

Where do you go?

You can go to your general practitioner and the GGD, but also to a private clinic or a vaccination center.* At your GP you will have to purchase the vaccine at a pharmacy first. At a private clinic, such as Stadskliniek, or a vaccination center, the HPV-vaccines are usually in stock and can be administered directly. 

*Depending on your health situation you may need 2-3 vaccine doses, meaning you will return several times to your chosen location for the shot.
